Scribbles

My life is in scribbles on the front
In inky pen and scraggly font
I'm waiting for it all to come together
The black ink turning into colors
Lasting forever
Holding onto Dear Life
As they call it
I'm holding on screaming but help never comes
Hope is still with me
But it won't be long
Before it climbs up itself
And
Runs
Runs
Runs
I hear a voice calling
"Don't let go!"
I let go anyway
But hope is still hanging on.
(i wrote this when i was sort of depressed in 5th grade science.

Almost Famous

                                                 everyday
i'm one strep closer to having my name on a magazine cover every minute a milestone occurs. a life changing discovery, and someone almost gets through. a person almost survives from cancer. a person almost aced a test. a person almost won the lottery. a person was almost put down to eternally rest. But didn't. Or did. Famous last word. Almost. Almost there. Just one step closer. A little more effort. Guess what? Sparks fly. The truth collides with hope. My love for the boy is suddenly known. A soldier comes running home, and i'm almost famous.

Love is a Poem

Love is strange
is normal
is sweet
is bitter
is crazy
is calm
is weird
is average
is our Lord Jesus
is the devil's hate
is a coincidence
is fate
is a risk
is a chance
is life
is death
is a reason
is a game
is my heart
is fame
is a treat
is a threat
is the truth
is a lie
Love is a poem.

(btw sorry i wasn't on for so long :P)

Poetry In Your Life

Have you ever thought about how poetry is in your life? I mean, when you start writing poetry, and you enjoy it.....confusing things in life become more obvious. Like when looking at a piece of abstract art. Before becoming a poet, you would think to yourself, "What is that supposed to be?" But after becoming a poet, it would seem obvious. "Oh it's an enormous flower with faces in the petals. That happens because poetry is deep and thoughtful, just like confusing things are, like some art, music, or even a pattern!

Style

A poet should always have their own style...
     melancholy , happy, deep, amusing,
all of those. Now, every poets style is different from anyone else. Every one poet has their own unique way to string words together to create one type of feeling. For instance, Edgar Allen Poe mostly wrote about murder, prisoners and his own sorrow. Shel Silverstien was deep, thoutful, and occasionally funny. But poets cannot tell their own style. It is impossible for a poet to know what kind of effect it makes on the reader. Basically, it is the overall average thoughts of  all the readers that read your poem. That is what I call style, in poetry words.

Spelling Test

This came to me in the middle of  a spelling test today, and my entire class was acting up because we had a substitute. I was trying to concentrate on my words, rather than to listen about girls' romantic thoughts about their beau, so I thought about a poem, and soon enough, I couldn't hear a sound, but everyone's mouths were flapping.

Today the class is extremely loud
I can' t hear my thoughts above the crowd
The spelling test is now history
To them, and her, and him, and me
Goodbye, the chance of a perfect score
I may have another chance, in a week
                                                 .........or more

and now for the big question.....drum roll please.........

Poem for Japan

Everyone has obviously heard about he terrible disaster that has occurred in Japan. Why not make a poem of it to express your feelings? Here is one I wrote.

                                 Japan. Everyday you
                                do what you can to
                                help the poor people who's
lives are almost literally covered in
                                ruins, they watch the reactor
spewing, and knowing their lives are
in danger, and every minute getting stranger and stranger,
Everyday they wait for this nightmare to end
only few people are left that have a
hand to lend, they're sure its a dream
they know it, they know it! sadly,
our expectations of that are getting lower and
denser, thinner and lighter than the sword
of a fencer, we need some hope we need
life that won't mope about all this
and ones who will rebuild, fine up, and
polish and gild, the almost doomed city of Japan.

Anonymous

This is a poem I wrote about an anonymous person. It started out as a school assignment for Literacy Works, to write about a name. It turned into a poem not only as homework, but for enjoyment. Here it goes......

            Hello, my name is [anonymous]
You may be frightened about my past
My dreadful days are meant to last
My name will never be known
My people have never seen me upon my throne
You’ll never know if I’m strong or weak
You’ll never know if I’m bold or meek
            I’m privet in every way
No one knows what I do all day
Do I sit and ponder upon my couch?
Do I smile and laugh, or frown and grouch?
What does the world mean to me is ________
What does love mean to me is ________
            Every night and every day
Not a soul knows what I think or say
And don’t think for a moment that I’ll ever tell
Because my name is [anonymous]

Not My Day

This is a poem I really enjoy reading. I would have to give it 5 stars.

Not My Day- By Russel Hoban
I got up on the wrong side of the day
and came right off; it walked away
showing the whites of its eyes "Stop!"
I said, "I mean to get on the top
                                   of you." It kept on going;
                                   I followed, knowing
                                   days don't always do
exactly what you'd like them to

"Stand still" I said "I'm going to try again"
                                    I thought I heard it neigh a little,then
it kept on walking while I stood there talking
'All right' I said, (it sounded like a threat)
'I'll see you later' But I haven't yet.

I love it! How about you?

Recommended Bookd for Writing Poems

These are some books I've used and read to help me become a better poet.
  •  Poetry Home Repair Manual-by Ted Kooser...........Practical Advice for Beginning Poets
  •   Poem Crazy-by Susan Goldsmith Wooldridge..........freeing your life with words
In my opinion, these are great books to learn and get better in poetry writing. Some can be found in 'Barnes&Nobles'.

How to start a poem

This is how I normally start to write a poem
  1. Come up with a subject
  2. Come up with a line or two
  3. Go with the flow
For number three, it means just to write down what first pops into your head, that you like. If you think to much, your poem will come out to literal. Poems are supposed to contain a mouthful of beautiful vocabulary. Vocab is the key. It makes any kind of writing interesting.  That is my opinion.

How did it Begin?

I have a question. Does anyone know how poetry began? Not why it began. But how, and when, and who started it?  Yes. Poetry was made to express feelings throughout fierce vocabulary and strong words. But who had the brave heart to start a whole new way of writing.
I AM DYING TO KNOW!!!!!! SO ARE MANY OTHERS!!!!!

Spring!

This is a poem I found about Spring, by Patricia Walter. I like it because it reminds me of what is going on right now, not just about spring v.s winter, but about all the disaster that is going on, not that I like it. See how she is writing about Spring, but when read, can mean many different things. Tell me in your comments what you think it means!

"This spring is better than the last
No point living in the past
             Each new season
            Is there a reason
             Life keeps changing
             Just keeps rearranging"

What do you think? I like it.
